This is the main chapel at Providence College, where the students have their Masses during the school year. It's been many years since I went to a Sunday Mass here with the students, so I don't remember what the numbers breakdown is between students vs. the general public. I do remember there being a big liturgical choir made up of students.
I go to daily Mass here sometimes, since they have one at 4:30 in the afternoon, though not as often as I should. It's a nice, quiet Mass, and the Dominicans are fantastic preachers and presiders.
PC is very spoiled to have as many great priests as they do. As you probably know, the Dominicans are doing extremely well with vocations on the East Coast, to the point that they're having to move people out of their seminary to make room. Good for them - they absolutely deserve it. They take the faith seriously, and young people are attracted to that kind of authenticity and piety. By all indications, the various types of Dominican sisters also seem to be doing well. My friend Maria just became a cloistered Dominican recently, and her congregation is both young and growing.
The altar area goes back really, really far - this is what it looks like from the lectors' seats. |
My parish had Mass here for a few months this winter when our boiler broke. It was fine, but it was wonderful to get back into our normal church once the weather got warmer.
