Church #22 - St. Francis de Sales, North Kingstown

I went to Mass here last summer with a friend before going to the beach. It's a convenient meeting spot on the way down to Narragansett.

The church is very bright and cheerful inside, a good example of a well done modern church. It has kind of a funky ceiling, and some excellent stained glass windows, including a beautiful rose window behind the altar.

For a daily Mass, I remember there being a lot of people in the church. I also know an excellent young priest in the diocese who came from here, which is certainly a great sign for the quality of the parish.

St. Francis de Sales is known for being a spellbinding preacher, an unusually effective bishop, and a great spiritual writer. He lived in a difficult time and place for the church, and received a lot of pushback from Protestants for his preaching, including failed assassination attempts. The spiritual legacy he left behind was so strong that multiple religious congregations were founded in his name after his death.
