Church #30 - St. Michael, Smithfield

One of my friends had Mass said for me here for my birthday (thanks Tom!). You can tell the church was built in the 60s - it has the "everyone gathered around the altar in a semicircle" layout and no balcony.

The parish was founded as a Portuguese church. After the old building started falling apart, they built this new one down the street. It's hard to tell how big the parish is, but the morning daily Mass was well attended. The parish has Eucharistic adoration once a week, which I'll have to keep in mind since it's fairly close to me.

The highlight of the church is three enormous stained glass windows. There's a spectacular one in the back of St. Michael the Archangel, one that lists the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and another that lists various phrases related to Jesus's life. I'm sure there's a connecting thread through them, but I can't figure out what it is. I wish the pictures I took had come out a little better.
