Church #103 - St. Joseph, West Warwick

I remember this church well because I once went to a wedding at the church across the street, and I almost left because I went to this church instead and thought I had the date wrong. I came here for the Saturday morning Mass earlier today. I was late, but I thought the only way into the church was through the front, so I walked in in front of everyone and hopefully didn't distract people too much. There were a lot of people at the Mass, and a bunch of them stayed after to pray and socialize. The priest has audio homilies on the parish's web site, and I can definitely see why after hearing him; he was excellent.

I enjoyed the church as well. It has beautiful and detailed stained glass, and a huge crucifix off to one side of the altar area. There's a resurrected Jesus behind the altar in the crucifix's place. I also loved the Pieta statue in front of the altar that's there for Lent. A guy in a Knights of Columbus jacket after Mass explained the church's Lent decorations: four banners out among the pews that show the Eucharist, the Holy Spirit, the Crown of Thorns, and the Crucifixion. Along with the aforementioned Risen Christ and Pieta, they form a sort of mini Lenten Journey.
